In the thriving Western Montana electronic music community, few artists have achieved the level of name recognition and community support as Hunter Dearing, aka Nerdskull.
Over the last 8 years, Nerdskull has emerged as a diverse and eclectic force with his experiments across multiple genres, from more traditional hip-hop roots to the sounds of dubstep and future bass music.
Dearing, who calls Missoula, Montana home, has a resume any electronic producer would envy: Performances at virtually every major electronic festival in Montana, collaborations with Foundation Collective and Errl Sesh, and live appearances alongside legendary acts such as Champagne Drip, Figure, and MeSo.
It is perhaps Dearing’s willingness to experiment that has allowed for this astronomical rise to acclaim and recognition. In honing his skills as a songwriter, sound designer, and producer, his opportunities to explore new styles of music have been bolstered by a streamlined workflow and masterful understanding of what sounds resonate with his audience. It’s been a formula for success that lend Nerdskull’s music the same captivating energy as artists like Mr. Bill and Keota.
This success clearly hasn’t gotten to Dearing himself; the popular figure at summer festivals and winter shows alike remains one of the most beloved artists in the region both on and off the stage.
